Why
We Gather. EmbraceRace is about building a strong
and nourishing community of practice for parents, guardians, teachers and other
caregivers who want to help raise a generation of children who are thoughtful,
informed, and brave about race. In this session we — Andrew
(Grant-Thomas) and Melissa (Giraud) — will talk about the Big Picture of race in the United
States that led us to launch the community. We’ll highlight the goals we
derived from that Big Picture and describe some of the work, both current and
upcoming, we hope will help us all move toward those goals. We see EmbraceRace both as a
provider of information and support in the race-and-raising-kids space and as
part of the larger movement for racial and social justice. We think there’s a
lot at stake in whether, how, and how well we collectively do this work. Let’s
talk about it!
REGISTER HERE and please spread the word! Thanks.

How to Start a Teaching Career on the Right Foot While some districts struggle to recruit teachers, many also struggle to retain them. Years of research highlight school-based factors that can reduce teacher attrition, but how can teachers help themselves? In this Q&A-based webinar, special guest Roxanna Elden, an author and teacher, will discuss ways teachers can thrive despite challenges, including by managing expectations, building mentoring relationships, and taking advantage of other school supports. In addition, school leaders will get advice on how they can better support their teachers, while creating a more attractive environment for recruits.

Roxanna Elden, teacher and the
author of See Me After Class: Advice for Teachers by Teachers, a guide that has
helped new teachers navigate potential pitfalls as they transition from

through the most difficult part of the school year. For more information,

Implementing an effective intervention model is complicated. Whether it’s due to lack of resources, unclear objectives, inconsistent professional development, or having to navigate changes in funding regulations, ongoing challenges make it difficult to implement an intervention framework with fidelity and realize it’s true purpose: to improve student outcomes.
A popular model for delivering intervention and support for students with diverse learning needs is Response to Intervention, or RTI. But what makes an intervention model, like RTI, successful?
Join us to hear Dale Webster, Ph.D., Chief Academic Officer at the Consortium on Reaching Excellence in Education (CORE), discuss strategies for creating an effective intervention program for grades K-8, including:
Essential components of a RTI framework as applied in grades K–8
Important considerations for implementing a multi-tiered system of support
Evidence-based instructional strategies for effective interventions in math and literacy
How to effectively use data from progress monitoring to inform instruction

Perhaps what
we should consider is how well an app

and create that

to take into account when it comes to customization –
what age is the user?
What is the ability of the user?
Does the user have a visual impairment? Does
the user
require a switch? We will then demonstrate a range of

Guiding Parents Through School Choice In cities where traditional school boundaries are fluid and more options, such as charters, have entered the mix of K-12, selecting a school is an increasingly complex endeavor for parents. Recent research shows that an abundance of school choice doesn't guarantee access, and many parents in high-choice cities struggle to find adequate information, transportation, and, ultimately, the right school for their children. But some cities, like Denver, are leading the way in practices to help ease the burden on parents, such as universal enrollment systems and partnerships between districts and charter schools to assist parents in making informed choices. Our guests will discuss the realities, research, and practice of guiding families through choice. Underwriting for the content for this webinar has been provided by the Walton Family Foundation
