Free Webinar from CHADD - DSM-5 & ADHD : New Diagnostic Guidelines - July 10th 3 - 4 PM

Who:

Mary Solanto, PhD
When:

Wednesday, July 10, 2013,  3:00 PM - 4:00 PM (Eastern time)
What:

DSM-5 & ADHD: New Diagnostic Guidelines

The fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) is here! ‘So what?’- you say.  Well, as the saying goes, “the devil is in the details."

The DSM-5 is the latest edition of the manual doctors and mental health professionals use to diagnose mental health conditions like ADHD, depression, anxiety, autism and others. That means the guidelines for determining if you or someone you love has ADHD have changed!  That’s big news!

These are just a few examples of questions that the new DSM-5 changes may prompt:

  • “I’m an adult with ADHD and have been struggling with it for years.  What do the new guidelines mean for an adult like me?
  • “My child has Autism, and for years I was told he can’t be diagnosed with ADHD, too.  Now his therapist says he can have both. I’m confused.  Which one is it?
  • “My child is 12 years old.  If she had ADHD, she would have been diagnosed by now, right?”

Psychologist, Mary Solanto will join us on July 10, 2013 to explain what the new ADHD guidelines mean for you and your family.

Pre-registration is required for this free chat.

Please click above to pre-register for the chat. Follow the instructions on that page to participate. This is an online webinar with audio and video streaming. Dr. Solanto will give a brief presentation on the DSM and the new diagnostic criteria for ADHD and will then answer questions submitted by chat participants.

Happy FOURTH OF JULY!

Happy Fourth of July
-----   Happy Independence Day!   Yes, this is the day we told Great Britain and its King ----- we declare independence!
Fireworks in Boston

Here are some interesting facts about the Fourth and some links to more facts and activities:

The Fourth of July was not declared a NATIONAL holiday until 1941.

The stars on the original American flag were in a circle so all those rebellious Colonies would appear equal.

The Declaration of Independence was signed by 56 men from 13 colonies.

The only one to sign the Declaration of Independence on July 4th was the first signature, John Hancock, it took another month to get the other signatures.

The American Pyrotechnics Association (APA) estimates that more than 14,000 fireworks displays light up U.S. skies each Fourth of July.

Events that have occurred on the Fourth of July:
Henry David Thoreau moved into his shack on Walden Pond (1845)
Beach Boys' "I Get Around" reached No. 1 on the Billboard charts (1964)
Lyndon Johnson signed the Freedom of Information Act (1966)
Presidents John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe all died on the Fourth.
Adams and Jefferson died on the same day within hours of each other in 1826.

The first official Fourth of July was held at the White House in 1801.

Approximately 150 million hot dogs are consumed on this day.

The number of Americans who will spend the holiday at other people's homes is approximately 45 million (this figure varies depending on which site you are looking at).

There are more than 30 towns nationwide that have the word "Liberty" in their names.
